The muscular system consists of all the muscles in the body. We need muscles to move. For example, when we walk or pick up objects.
Muscles are elastic organs. They contract when the nervous system sends an order and relax afterwards.
Muscles are attached to bones by tendons. These are like strong strings. This is how the muscles make the bones move.
The main muscles of the body are located in the head, the trunk, and limbs.
Muscles in the head. These muscles are flat. They allow us to chew, speak, etc.
Muscles in the trunk. These muscles are flat and large. They support the spine, protect the organs in the abdomen and help us to breathe.
Muscles in the limbs. Many of these muscles are long. They allow us to move our arms, legs, hands, and feet.
